ECIL Seals a Landmark Deal to Transform Zimbabwe’s Carbon Markets

Dr. Byakatonda Abdulhu, Founder and Managing Director of Environment Concern Initiatives Limited (ECIL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mukono Wezhou Infrastructure in Harare, marking a new step in the partnership between the two organisations and the Government of Zimbabwe.
The MoU sets out a framework for transferring technology and expertise in tree nursery operations and carbon credit management, among other areas of collaboration. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to building local capacity and delivering sustainable, community-driven environmental projects across the country.
Representatives of the Government of Zimbabwe commended Dr. Byakatonda and ECIL for choosing to invest in the country, citing the initiative’s focus on sustainability, adaptability, and its potential to improve household incomes for Zimbabwean communities.
The signing ceremony, held at the New Ambassador Hotel in Harare, brought together a range of key stakeholders, including an official from the World Bank and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment, underscoring the broad institutional support behind the partnership.
The MoU signing forms part of a 2-day visit by Dr. Byakatonda to Zimbabwe, during which he has toured a number of key projects across the country to assess opportunities for collaboration and investment.
ECIL looks forward to building on this agreement to deliver lasting impact for tree nurseries, carbon markets, and environmental education in Zimbabwe.
